EMERGENCY WARNING - Upper Turon Road, Palmers Oaky (Lithgow LGA)

A bush fire is burning in the area of Upper Turon Road, Palmers Oaky. The fire is more than 3,000 hectares in size and is out of control.

Current Situation

A strong southerly change will reach the fireground in the coming hours.
Fire activity is increasing across the fireground and is forecast to experience extreme fire danger.
A fire is burning in the Razorback Road and Cherry Tree area.
The fire is burning to the west of Castlereagh Highway, and is south east of Razorback Road.
Firefighters are working to contain the fire and may undertake backburning operations to strengthen containment lines.
Advice

If you are in the areas of Upper Turon, Turon River, Razorback Road, Cherry Tree Hill, Running Stream and Ilford, watch out for embers that may start fires ahead of the main fire front.
Monitor the changing conditions.
Know what you will do if the fire threatens.
If you are threatened by fire

Do not be in the path of the fire.
Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
If you are in an area that has already been affected by fire, there may be small areas of active fire burning for some time. Be aware of the dangers of trees and branches falling.

People with respiratory conditions who are affected by bush fire smoke should activate their health management plan and seek medical advice if necessary. Take precautions, such as staying indoors and closing windows.
