A bush fire is burning at Busbys Flat, Wyan, Myrtle Creek and Rappville. The fire has burned more than 24,700 hectares and is out of control.

Current Situation

The fire is burning in the area of Rappville, Wyan, The Island, Myrtle Creek, Wineshanty, and Mount Belmore State Forest.

Yesterday the fire crossed the Summerland Way and impacted in the West Bungawalbin area.

A wind change moved across the fireground last night pushing the fire in a northerly direction towards Coombell, Ellangowan.

Firefighters continue to work to protect properties in the area.

There are reports of a number of homes or buildings being destroyed by the fire in the Rappville area.

The Long Gully Road fire has now burnt to to western edge of this fireground.

If you are in the path of the fire you should remain vigilant and take the advice of firefighters in the area.


If you are in the areas of Coombell, Ellangowan, Rappville, Wyan, Wineshanty, The Island, Myrtle Creek, West Bungawalbin, Busby Flat or Mount Belmore State Forest remain vigilant and be ready to act if the fire threatens your property.

If you are to the east the Summerland Way in the area of Myall Creek Road, Duke Road, Neileys Lagoon Road and Bungawalbin Creek, continue to monitor the situation and know what you will do if threatened by fire.

Under these conditions a well prepared and actively defended home can offer safety during the fire.

Other Information

An evacuation centre has been set up at at St Marys Primary School - 120 Centre Street, Casino for people who require assistance.
Small domestic animals can be taken to the evacuation centre. Larger animals can be taken to the Casino Showgrounds, Summerland Way.
