A Tropical Low is developing in the Gulf of Carpentaria and may develop into a cyclone Sunday night. The system is expected to move towards the southwest and cross the southwest Gulf of Carpentaria coast during Monday.

Most catchments along the Gulf of Carpentaria coast are relatively dry except those in the southern Gulf and northern Barkly which have received rainfall earlier in the season. These areas can expect rivers and streams to respond to rainfall.

Widespread daily rainfall totals of 100 - 200 mm and isolated falls of 300 mm are expected for many catchments on the Gulf of Carpentaria coast from Monday and continuing until mid week. Rainfall is expected to extend into the northern Barkly from Tuesday and continuing to Wednesday with daily totals of 50 - 100 mm expected and isolated 200 mm falls possible in some places.

Widespread areas of localised flooding and significant river rises in larger river systems can be expected from Monday, increasing on Tuesday. Widespread disruption to roads can be expected from Monday with major transport routes possibly impacted as well. Some communities and homesteads may become isolated.
