SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MOVING WEST-NORTHWEST ACROSS THE CARPENTARIA DISTRICT

Weather Situation: An unstable northwest flow across the Top End and Carpentaria District north of a trough is leading to favourable conditions for severe thunderstorms. A line of storms over the Carpentaria District are moving west-northwest at 45km/h towards the southern Arnhem District.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Minyerri.
The severe thunderstorms near Katherine have now weakened.

A severe wind gust of 98 km/h was recorded at Tindal at 10:25pm
The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* secure loose outside objects
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
