Scattered severe thunderstorms over the far southwest, with heavy
rainfall and damaging wind gusts.
Weather Situation: A humid, hot and unstable airmass is combining
with an approaching upper level disturbance to produce severe
thunderstorms today across southwestern parts of the state.
Thunderstorms are expected to be slow moving with possible damaging
wind gusts. Thunderstorm activity is expected to persist and
organise into slow moving clusters over the next few hours with
heavy rainfall gradually becoming the primary hazard.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may
lead to flash flooding and damaging winds in the warning area over
the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include
Birdsville, Eromanga, Orientos, Ballera, Morney and Durrie.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the North West and
Central West districts and the warning for these districts is
CANCELLED.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
