Severe thunderstorms are developing across the southeast of the
state
Weather Situation: A humid and unstable airmass east of an inland
trough is producing thunderstorm activity this evening. An
approaching upper trough will allow these thunderstorms to continue
moving east overnight.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and
heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area
over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected
include St George, Dirranbandi, Goondiwindi, Texas, Surat and
Mungindi.
An 89km/h wind gust was recorded at Oakey at 4.22pm.
126mm in 2 hours to 5.30pm at Bromfleet (SE of Jimboomba).
48mm in 30 minutes to 3.50pm at Benobble (SE of Beaudesert).
51mm in 30 minutes to 3.36pm at Lumeah (S of Beaudesert).
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
