Weather Situation: Thunderstorms are occuring across inland parts
of southeast Queensland.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:15 pm, severe
thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Toowoomba,
the area northwest of Toowoomba, the area north of Toowoomba, the
area west of Kilcoy and Urbenville(NSW). These thunderstorms are
moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Kilcoy,
Crows Nest, Haden and Mount Kilcoy by 5:45 pm and the area
southwest of Esk, the area west of Esk, Rathdowney and Conondale by
6:15 pm.
Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.
83km/h wind gust was reported at Wellcamp Airport at 4:40pm.
Golf ball size hail reported at Oakey around 5pm.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
