TORNADO WARNING
Weather Situation: Very dangerous thunderstorms northwest of
Kilkivan - expected to continue their northeast track. Very large
hail and destructive winds with tornado are expected within the
core of these cells.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:25 pm, severe
thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near the ranges
between Gympie and Murgon, Goomeri, Kilkivan and the area north of
Goomeri. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They
are forecast to affect the area northwest of Gympie and the area
north of Kilkivan by 3:55 pm and Bauple, the area north of Gympie
and Mount Kanighan by 4:25 pm.
Destructive winds, large hailstones and a tornado are
likely.
- TORNADO reported southwest Tansey (northwest of Murgon)
- Tennis ball size hail (up to 7cm) was reported at Kumbia around
midday.
- 4 to 5cm hail reported between Proston and Murgon
- 3 to 5cm hail reported at and near Gympie
- Vast property and vegetation damage across all affected
towns
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
