By the Bureau of Meteorology, Hobart.

A flood watch has been issued for the North Eastern River basins.

A front will cross the State overnight Wednesday into Thursday. This system will bring widespread rain across the north of the State, heavy at times.

Rainfall totals of 20 to 30 mm are forecast overnight, with up to 50 mm in elevated areas. Rain will ease to showers during Thursday.

River rises are expected. Possible minor flooding may develop in some catchments from early Thursday morning onwards. Further catchment specific warnings will be issued if and when required.

Strong and dangerous flows are possible in small creeks and low lying areas in locations that receive heavy rainfall.

Note: This Flood Watch is a "heads up" for possible future flooding and is NOT a Flood Warning. The Bureau of Meteorology does not provide a flood warning service for all of the catchments covered by this flood watch.
