POSSIBLE DAMAGING WINDS TONIGHT IN THE WEST AND SOUTH

Weather Situation: A low pressure centre to the west of Tasmania is forecast to move close to the south of the state and intensify this evening.

DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are possible along the west coast early this evening, then about the south later this evening. Wind gusts south of Geeveston may possibly reach 100 to 110 km/h late this evening.

Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds shortly after midnight as the low moves away to the south.

Locations which may be affected include Strahan, Hobart, Geeveston, Dover and Huonville.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
