Squally winds over the southwest and about the ranges.

Strong and gusty northerly winds developing today mainly over elevated areas.

DAMAGING NORTHERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are forecast about elevated parts of WESTERN and CENTRAL Victoria during Friday morning.

Winds are expected to ease across elevated parts of western and central Victoria from the late morning.

DAMAGING NORTHERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible about elevated parts of CENTRAL and EASTERN Victoria during Saturday morning. Gusts may reach 110 km/h over Alpine areas (above 1200 metres).

Winds are expected to ease across elevated parts of central and eastern Victoria during Saturday afternoon.

Locations which may be affected include Ararat, Kyneton, Ballarat, Daylesford, Falls Creek and Omeo.

The strongest gusts have been:

Mount William - 94 km/h at 5:38pm

Ben Nevis - 83 km/h at 11:48pm

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
