FLOODING MAY DEVELOP IN THE DE GREY RIVER AND DESERT
CATCHMENTS
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Anika crossed the coast last night near Wallal
and will weaken further as it moves southeast through the Pilbara
and Interior today and Friday.
In the 24 hours to 9:00 am Thursday rainfall totals up to 162 mm
were recorded in the Sandy Desert District and over parts of the De
Grey River catchment.
Daily rainfall totals of 50 -150 mm are possible during Thursday
and Friday with isolated higher falls possible depending on the
path of the system including Telfer. Further totals of 10-25 mm are
possible over the Flood Watch area Friday into Saturday.
Heavy rainfall will result in significant river rises, and areas
of flooding which will adversely affect road conditions, some
rivers will rise very rapidly and road users should take
care.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
De Grey River
Warburton District Rivers
Salt Lakes District Rivers
Flooding is no longer expected in the following catchments:
Fitzroy River.

Flood Safety Advice:
DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is
possible and be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch
water levels. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may
be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered.
Do not drive into water of unknown depth and velocity.
