Flood Watch Number: 3


A tropical low located near the southwest Gulf of Carpentaria coast is expected to move across the Carpentaria District during today and Monday and across the Gregory District from Monday night and Tuesday.

Many parts of the Carpentaria Coastal Rivers have received widespread rainfall totals of 50 - 100mm and isolated totals of 150mm to 0900 this morning with many rivers rising in response. The upper Victoria River has also received widespread falls to 50mm and rivers and creeks are rising in response.

Widespread falls of 50 to 100mm and isolated falls of 100-200mm closer to the low are occurring and expected to continue throughout the Carpentaria Coastal Rivers today. Rainfall is also expected across the northern Barkly today with widespread falls of 50 - 80mm likely and isolated falls to 150mm possible. Heavy rainfall is expected to extend into the upper Victoria River from tonight with widespread falls of 50-100 mm and isolated falls of 100-150mm.

Widespread flooding of low lying areas and significant river rises are expected to continue in the flood watch area for the next few days. Many roads, and possibly major highways are also expected to be affected into early next week. Some communities and homesteads may become or remain isolated.

A Flood Warning is current for the Waterhouse River.
