Flood Watch Number: 1

Minor flooding leading to travel disruption is possible across the far western Gulf of Carpentaria catchments from Saturday.

A Tropical Low may develop within the monsoon trough near the western Gulf of Carpentaria today, and bring widespread rain with heavy falls across the far western parts of the Qld Gulf River catchments during the weekend. The Low is expected to move in a south-westerly direction into inland parts of the NT.

Catchments are currently not fully saturated despite recent rainfall which may lead to a small buffer to flooding initially.

Daily rainfall totals of 50-100mm are likely from Saturday with locally heavier falls up to 150mm possible associated with thunderstorm activity causing flash flooding.

Minor flooding is possible, which may lead to possible travel disruption and isolation of communities.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Settlement Creek
Nicholson River
Leichhardt River
Lower Flinders River
Cloncurry River
