Flood Watch Number: 1


A low pressure system south of the Bight will move slowly east during Thursday, with an associated trough crossing Victoria on Friday.

Catchments in the flood watch area are moderately wet following recent rainfall.

Heavy rain is forecast for the North East of Victoria during Friday and into Saturday, clearing during Saturday morning. Event totals of 40-70 mm are expected across the North East catchments, with higher totals up to 100 mm possible across the ranges.

With the forecast rainfall, river rises are expected across the flood watch area and minor to moderate flooding is likely to develop from overnight Friday into Saturday.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Upper Murray and Mitta Mitta Rivers
Kiewa River
Ovens and King Rivers
Broken River
Broken Creek
Seven and Castle Creeks
Goulburn River upstream of Lake Eildon
Goulburn River Eildon to Seymour
Goulburn River downstream of Seymour

The Bureau of Meteorology is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue catchment specific warnings as required.
