Issued at 11:16 am CST on Sunday 22 September 2024

Flood Watch Number: 3

STREAM LEVEL RISES AND LOCALISED FLOODING POSSIBLE ACROSS THE FLOOD WATCH AREA FROM LATE SUNDAY

A broad trough of low pressure is deepening and will remain over the southern Kimberley and Northern Interior of Western Australia for the next few days. This will cause showers and thunderstorms to increase over the western half of the NT from Sunday and spread eastwards across southern and central NT early next week.

Catchments in the Flood Watch area are generally very dry.

Moderate to heavy falls are possible about the Tanami and surrounding regions from Sunday evening. Widespread rainfall totals of 40-60 mm on Sunday, 80-120 mm on Monday and 25-40 mm on Tuesday are forecast. Isolated daily falls in excess of 100 mm on Sunday, 150 mm on Monday and 70 mm on Tuesday are possible.

Significant stream level rises, localised flooding, and overland inundation are possible in parts of the Flood Watch area which may affect road access. Some communities may become isolated.

Catchments likely to be impacted include:

Tanami Desert

Western Desert

Sturt Creek District
