Severe thunderstorms continuing across parts of the southeast and central Queensland this evening

Weather Situation: A trough extends over the southeast inland of Queensland with a warm, humid and very unstable airmass on its eastern side. moderately strong winds in the upper atmosphere will promote some organised severe thunderstorms into the evening.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett districts. Locations which may be affected include Monto, Gayndah, Biggenden and Gin Gin.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Central Highlands and Coalfields district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

4 cm hailstones were recorded at Wyaralong around 4:45pm.

3 cm hailstones were recorded at Haigslea around 4:45pm.

113 km/h wind gust was recorded at Blackwater Airport at 5:20pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
