Heavy rainfall and possible damaging wind gusts over parts of the
Interior and southern Kimberley with ex-Tropical Cyclone
Dianne.
Weather Situation: Ex-Tropical Cyclone Dianne continues to move to
the south-southeast through the North Interior of WA.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for
southern parts of the Kimberley and western parts of the Northern
Interior, extending towards the remainder of the Interior tonight
and through Monday as ex-Tropical Cyclone Dianne moves slowly to
the south-southeast.
Six-hourly rainfall totals of 50 to 80 mm are possible, with
isolated totals up to 120 mm. 24-hourly totals of 80 to 120 mm are
possible, with isolated daily falls up to 180 mm.
Heavy rainfall is expected to ease later on Monday.
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS up to 90 km/h are possible in eastern parts of
the warning area, particularly in association with
thunderstorms.
Locations which may be affected include Balgo and
Kiwirrkurra.
Derby recorded 170 mm and Curtin RAAF Base recorded 134 mm of
rainfall over 24 hours as the system moved through.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm
water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from
windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones
if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power
lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and
waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should
always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance
company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly
damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
